Light is a 3D puzzle platformer game where you play as a spirit of light that wants to make the world bright again. Navigating through the dark is difficult though, as that makes your own light dim, and if your light goes out, it’s over. By jumping into lamps or entering safe zones, your strength replenishes, and you shine brightly again. With this in mind, navigate the streets and bring light to the world.

This game was the end project of my Game Design 3 course, which consisted of multiple rounds of brainstorming to come up with ideas, creating prototypes from those ideas and iterating on them further, to then at the end pick out the best concept and work that out into a vertical slice. In total, I probably made about 12 prototypes for this course alone, where about a third was further iterated upon and only one was then built into this vertical slice.
This was the first concept I came up with after probably the worst brainstorm out of all the brainstorms I did for this course, but still this concept was the one I liked and saw the most potential in.
The biggest thing I had to pay attention to while creating this vertical slice was of course player feedback, making sure the player knows what's going on at all times. Most 3D assets I used were from Kenney.nl.
Aside from creating the game itself, I also had to create a game design document, and this one my first time doing so. This document gave a detailed description of every aspect of the game, including the design pillars, target audience, the game's USPs, as well as the gameplay, visual style, audio, and more.
